Meg Ryan, blonde-haired and blue-eyed
She was born Margaret Mary Emily Hyra in Fairfield Connecticut to Susan
(Duggan) an ex- actor and English teacher, as well as Harry Hyra, a maths
teacher. She is of Ruthenian, Polish, Irish, and German ancestry ("Hyra"
is an Irish and Ruthenian surname, and "Ryan" is her maternal
grandmother's maiden name). Meg graduated from Bethel High School, Bethel in
May 1979. When she moved to New York, she attended New York University where
she majored in journalism. Meg Ryan as her new name, began acting to earn a
little extra while she completed her studies. In the year 1981, she had her big
screen debut with an appearance in a short scene as Candice Bergen's daughter
in George Cukor's last film Rich and Famous (1981). She was auditioned for and
selected to play Betsy in the daytime soap As the World Turns (1956). From 1982
until 1984, she was part of the ensemble. Meg was also part of the television
series One of the Boys (1982), which was quickly removed. In 1984, she moved to
a tinsel town, and got an appearance in the western TV series Wildside (1985).
Meg was a part-time actress in Top Gun (1986), and then was part of Steven
Spielberg's Innerspace (1987), in which she co-starred with Dennis Quaid. In
the remake of D.O.A., she starred again with Quaid. (1988) and then got married
on Saint Valentine's Day 1991. Meg appeared in 1989's When Harry Met Sally...
(1989), and the restaurant scene was made famous. Meg was nominated both for
the Golden Globe as well as the BAFTA. In 1990, she co-starred with Tom Hanks
in Joe Versus the Volcano (1990) and this time she played three roles as
DeDe/Angelica/Patricia. In 1993, she co-starred alongside Tom in Sleepless in
Seattle (1993) and was nominated again for the Golden Globe. In 1994, Meg
decided to act as if she was a rebel as the alcoholic wife and mother in When a
Man Loves a Woman (1994). She returned to being "cute" afterward with
I.Q. (1994) and French Kiss (1995). People Magazine voted Meg as one of the 50
most beautiful individuals on earth 1994.
